Leeds United are set to welcome back Luke Ayling, at an opportune time.

Leeds United defender Liam Cooper is out this weekend against Millwall after pulling up with an injury on Tuesday night.

Gaetano Berardi filled in for Cooper as a substitute, and is certainly an option again for the upcoming Championship clash.

Another option is returning star Luke Ayling, who has previously filled in as part of a back three.

Ayling made his first appearance of the season against West Brom when he came on for the last 15 minutes to help Leeds close out the win.

He replaced Tyler Roberts, a half-time substitute himself, as Leeds reshuffled tactically.

Ayling played at centre-back as a youngster and his performances in a back three indicate he could succeed partnering Ben White.

Gaetano Berardi did not put a foot wrong against Millwall, but he is known for being hot headed, and has been sent off seven times in his Leeds career.

Ayling is more reliable in this regard, and Leeds might be better off starting him at the back instead.

Leeds are a better team with Ayling in it. His passion and leadership is so helpful to the defence.

But Stuart Dallas has been outstanding and deserves to keep the right-back spot for now. Ayling at centre-back allows Leeds to play both.
