Marcel Brands is set to join Everton as their technical director, according to reports.

Brands and Van Gaal worked together at AZ Alkmaar for four years, between 2005 and 2009, and the partnership was very successful.
AZ caused a massive upset and won the Eredivisie title under Van Gaal’s stewardship, before he went on to manage Bayern Munich.

If Brands is brought to Everton there is a feeling that it will be the end for Sam Allardyce, which means the Toffees could be on the look out for a new boss.
And the potential to link up with Van Gaal again could be tempting for Brands.
Van Gaal has previously stated that a return to England would appeal to him, as he wants to prove a point to Manchester United.
Van Gaal would be a high-calibre appointment for Everton which would prove their ambition.

Everton have announced an intention to start challenging for Europe, but this season has been a major disappointment.
Allardyce has only been able to lead Everton into ninth place, and there are large calls for him to leave at the end of the season.
If Van Gaal was appointed it would be a decision which wouldn’t be unanimously popular, but if he could work effectively with Brands again, then it could be a smart choice for Everton.
