Leeds United reportedly faced a battle to keep Leif Davis at Elland Road this summer.

In one of the more surprising transfer rumours of the summer, The Sun reported back in May that Leeds youngster Leif Davis was being scouted by Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looked to provide cover for Andrew Robertson.
It has been a remarkable rise over the last 12 months for Davis. He arrived at Elland Road from Morecambe last summer and may have expected to spend the campaign with the under-23s. However, he had made his senior debut by the end of 2018.
Davis certainly did not disgrace himself in the dramatic 3-2 win against Aston Villa, especially when you consider that he was only informed that he was starting the game a few minutes before kick-off with Barry Douglas pulling out due to illness.
The 19-year-old went on to make a handful of appearances before the end of the season, and is clearly one player that the fans will want to keep an eye on in the coming years. Nevertheless, the supporters would have still been forgiven for being surprised by the £4 million links with Liverpool a couple of months ago.

But perhaps there is some more encouraging news for Leeds, with Spanish outlet Sport last week linking the Reds with an £18 million move for Augsburg’s Philipp Max.
Liverpool, of course, still need to get a deal across the line – and Sport suggests that Barcelona also want the 25-year-old – but the interest in Max does hint that Klopp is looking for a left-back who is ready to rival Robertson immediately.
As exciting a talent as Davis is, he does not appear to be ready for that kind of role at this stage of his career. So, while Leeds fans may not be able to completely relax just yet, it does appear that the Whites’ hopes of keeping one of their brightest prospects have received a boost.
