Lewis Baker has left Leeds United, but perhaps he may rue making that decision following Marcelo Bielsa’s update on Pablo Hernandez.

Leeds have suffered a major setback ahead of their crucial Championship clash this Friday, with Marcelo Bielsa suggesting – in comments reported by Leeds Live – that Pablo Hernandez is a major doubt for the game at Elland Road.

Hernandez has been in irresistible form in recent weeks. No Leeds player has had a direct hand in more goals than the Spaniard, with seven goals and 10 assists coming so far.

Derby will be delighted if he is not involved. And perhaps Hernandez’s injury could leave Lewis Baker ruing not holding fire on his decision to leave Leeds midway through his season-long loan spell.

Baker will probably look back on his spell with the Whites with little fondness after starting just two times in the Championship, and struggling to make any sort of impact during his time working under Bielsa.

Despite his struggles however, he would have arguably been one player that would have been in contention to start in place of Hernandez against Derby had he still been available.

While he would have needed something incredible against the Rams to even get close to keeping Hernandez out of the team, a superb performance on the night would have done his situation the world of good – perhaps just as Mateusz Klich’s stunning display on the opening day of the season saw his turnaround conclude.

Plenty of supporters will doubt whether Baker would have been capable of that kind of performance. But the Chelsea-owned midfielder will have belief in his own ability, so may now wonder whether he was slightly hasty in deciding to leave as the opening he was waiting for appears to be potentially there following his departure.
