Could Leroy Fer reports deal blow to Leeds’ hopes of Dan James move?

Leeds United have reportedly bid £10 million for Daniel James.

Leeds have seemingly signalled their intent ahead of the final days of the January transfer window, with The Sun reporting that they have made a £10 million bid for Dan James.

The Sun’s report suggested that Swansea value the winger at £12 million, so Leeds will be hoping that their Championship rivals are willing to compromise – and the league leaders would have previously been forgiven for feeling confident that they would be willing to accept a lower fee.

The Sun on Sunday (20/1; page 63) reported earlier this month that the Swans were hoping to move Wilfried Bony and Luciano Narsingh off the wage bill to relieve some financial pressure, and only planned to consider letting James leave if they failed to offload the pair.

Fortunately for Leeds, the two players currently remain on the Swans’ books. Unfortunately for the Whites however, a report from Sky Sports suggests that one key player could still be on the way out of the Liberty Stadium.

Sky Sports reports that Lille have begun talks over a move for Leroy Fer. With the £8 million ace’s contract expiring at the end of the season, Swansea do not appear to be in the best negotiating position, so it would be no surprise if some of the fans expected Fer to be on his way before the window closes.

And if Fer does leave, that may well provide the kind of financial breathing space that allows Swansea to dig their heels in while Leeds come in with big-money bids for James.
