Tottenham Hotspur built their success last season on a clear system in which the players knew their roles and were able to be expressive as a result of this familiarity.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino effectively stuck with a 3-4-3 that helped Spurs finish second in the Premier League behind Chelsea – a side who also reaped the rewards of the same formation.

This essentially saw Harry Kane as the focal point in attack, which is little surprise when the striker scored 29 goals in 30 league appearances.
However, part of this reliance on Kane was due to a lack of other options, with Vincent Janssen failing to impress. This term, though, Pochettino has started to introduce two upfront by partnering both Fernando Llorente and Heung-min Son with the England international.
It shows how the Argentine is constantly developing but it also perhaps opens the door to a new forward potentially being signed. With two slots to fill a new attacker would get more opportunities.

Which is why Spurs should perhaps renew their interest in RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, who according to the Sun was on the North London club’s radar back in the summer.
Still only 21-years-old, Werner has been in fine form since his 2016 switch to Leipzig, scoring 29 goals in 49 appearances and also a further six in eight caps for Germany.
With the youngster’s ability to also work the channels he could also operate in a 3-4-3 as well as a 3-5-2 and would bolster what is already an impressive Tottenham squad.
