Leeds United are close to signing ‘a big surprise from Asia’, according to their sporting director.

Leeds United are close to making a surprise signing from Asia, according to their sporting director Victor Orta.
The Spaniard told an online Q & A session: “We are watching players around the world. We have eight countries as priorities but we have a special group of scouts who watch the leagues a little bit lower. We are close to signing a big surprise from Asia.
“We are watching a lot of players in the secondary leagues because you can bring in good talent from them.”
Though Orta’s comments imply the new arrival is coming direct from the world’s most populous continent – especially after Leeds employed Toshiya Fujita, the former Japan player, to scout the region – they are slightly ambiguous.
Kwang Song Han of Cagliari looks on
It could be the case their mystery target is in fact based a little closer to home. And given the Whites’ ongoing links to Italian football, it would perhaps come as little surprise if the Asian striker currently taking Serie B by storm has emerged on their radar.
Han Kwang-song has scored four goals in three league and cup outings for Perugia this season, having signed on loan from Massimo Cellino’s old club, Cagliari.
According to the Sun, the North Korean’s form is already said to be attracting interest from Arsenal, Everton and Juventus. However, Leeds’ current project is attractive in its own right, and any interest from Elland Road is sure to be seriously considered.

Still only 18, Han – who scored his only Serie A goal to date against Joe Hart’s Torino in April – certainly has time on his side, and he may find that it’s better served in Leeds.
If they haven’t already, should Leeds take a look at Han?
