Leeds United might be the only club capable of stopping Wolves getting their hands on Robbie Keane.

Don’t let it be said that Wolves are resting on their laurels as they bid to win promotion to the Premier League.

The Championship leaders sealed a deal for Valencia striker Rafa Mir yesterday, and now they want to bring in former star Robbie Keane as well.

The Mirror report Wolves are trying to free Keane up from his contract in the Indian Super League and bring him in to lead their promotion charge.

It would make Wolves even more unstoppable – and potentially the only club who could throw a spanner in the works are another of Keane’s former clubs, Leeds United.

While there would be symmetry between Keane beginning and ending his career at Wolves, Keane has an emotional connection with Leeds United too.

He was part of their memorable team in the early 2000s, helping them challenge for top honours.

What’s more, is that he would fit in with the recent changes being brought about the club by new owner Andrea Radrizzani.

Radrizzani has created a ‘Legend’s Club’ at Elland Road, inviting former boss David O’Leary among others to be part of the matchday experience – Keane would represent a rare chance to get one of them on the pitch for a short term deal.

Leeds’ striking situation is less competitive than Wolves, and there is more of a challenge attempting to help sixth placed Leeds win promotion, than the team occupying top place.

Despite Leeds potentially being the only team who could potentially stop Wolves, it is the Championship leaders who have made the first move and are heavy favourites to get their man.

The forward thinking should be admired, and just perhaps, they might be able to convince Keane to play a part in the Premier League last season for one last time too.
