Leeds United attempted to sign Conor McLaughlin last summer, and he now has a Championship move lined up.

Fleetwood Town boss Uwe Rosler has told BBC Sport that Conor McLaughlin has informed him that he has a Championship move lined up this summer – and it remains to be seen whether Leeds United have retained their interest in the Northern Ireland international.

McLaughlin was offered a new contract by Fleetwood, but he has decided against staying on – with interest turning the defender’s head.

Rosler has confirmed that McLaughlin has a Championship moved lined up, and if Leeds have maintained an interest in the 25-year-old they could be one of the club’s competing for the full-back’s signature.

“Conor told me he wanted to play in the Championship and he has clubs lined up,” Rosler said. “He will most likely go and play in the Championship.”

Leeds were first linked with Mclaughlin back in 2016 by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Whites reportedly sent scouts to Euro 2016 to keep tabs on McLaughlin’s performances for Northern Ireland, and they even made contact with Fleetwood over doing a deal.

The Cod Army’s asking price, at that time, was deemed too high – and Leeds walked away.

However, with McLaughlin now available for free, he could become an appealing target for Thomas Christiansen again.

If McLaughlin was brought to Leeds, he would be in competition with Gaetano Berardi for a place on the right-hand side of the Whites’ defence.
