Leeds United first-team coach James Beattie once spoke very highly of Southampton youngster Harrison Reed back in 2015.

Reed caught the eye of Beattie three years ago, but he still has not managed to become a first-team regular at Southampton.

Reed has not made a Premier League start for the Saints this season, and while he is still highly regarded, at the age of 22 he could be looking for more first-team football.

And if Beattie has continued to track Reed’s progress, he could well be a player he recommends to Garry Monk in the summer.

“Harrison Reid is a player I’ve seen a number of times this year and he’s really impressed me,” Beattie said three years ago to Bleacher Report.

“He might be a small man in size, but certainly not in stature on the pitch. I saw him do one of the best jobs on Ross Barkley when Everton came to St. Marys.”

Reed has never before played for any other club than Southampton, even on loan, and he has only recently penned a new long-term contract at St. Mary’s.

However, unless the England youth international can start getting first-team football, there has to be question marks over whether he can fulfil his potential at Southampton.

If Reed was to move to Leeds, he would face competition for places – but he could fit in well with Garry Monk’s side.

Leeds have shown a willingness to play youngsters this season, and Reed would add depth to their midfield ranks.

Monk has previously listened to his backroom team’s advice when it comes to signings, with Pep Clotet recommending a number of players to Leeds, and it would not be a surprise if Beattie did suggest that the Whites make a move for Reed this summer.
