Jay-Roy Grot hasn’t scored in ten Championship games for Leeds United since moving from Dutch side NEC Nijmegen in the summer.
Patience was always going to be a virtue for Leeds United fans with Jay-Roy Grot. A 19-year-old attacker who had just 35 senior appearances to his name before arriving at Elland Road from NEC Nijmegen, the lanky forward was hardly going to be the finished article.
This has not saved the teenage Dutchman from criticism, however, with Leeds fans expressing increasing exasperation about Grot’s erratic performances.
He may have made just 10 Championship substitute appearances, averaging just over 10 minutes per game, but Grot’s inability to make a difference from the bench has left fans frustrated with Leeds in a run of six defeats from seven games.
Though there will be hopes that Leeds’ appointment of set-piece specialist Gianni Vio last week, per the Yorkshire Evening Post, could go some way to changing Grot’s fortunes.
And with 6ft 3ins Grot the second tallest outfield player in Leeds’ ranks, behind only Pontus Jansson, he should stand to benefit more than most.
Grot is renowned for his heading ability and his strength to hold off opponents – so what better way for Leeds to help him finally open his account in English football than by designing their set piece routines to get the best out of arguably the biggest aerial threat in their squad?
