Leeds United reportedly wanted Nick Powell during the summer and will come up against the attacking midfielder this weekend.

Although Samuel Saiz’s statistics of no goals and two assists tell a slightly misleading tale regarding his form for Leeds this season, the Spaniard has definitely not been anywhere near his best in recent weeks.
Saiz is clearly a player with many Premier League-level attributes. But his recent performances have proved to be a concern, and prompted Bielsa to leave him on the bench for the first 65 minutes of Leeds’ draw with Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
And after coming on, he was undoubtedly overshadowed by Jack Clarke, who was brought on during the same stoppage in play.
Given his recent displays therefore, perhaps his form over the next couple of months could have an impact on Bielsa’s January plans. Although Izzy Brown is still to make his debut, it would be a gamble to rely solely on the Chelsea loanee to provide cover for the magician given how long he has been sidelined for.

So perhaps a key decision about Leeds’ January plans could be made this weekend as the Whites travel to face Wigan.
When Bielsa identifies the Latics’ biggest threats, it is likely that he will talk to his players about Nick Powell – who is apparently a player that the Leeds boss is already aware of.
TEAMtalk reported in the summer that the Whites were one of the sides eyeing up a move for the attacking midfielder, who is out of contract at the DW Stadium at the end of the season but was still rated at £5 million by his current side.

Powell is Wigan’s talisman. He has scored four goals and provided four assists in the Championship. Mateusz Klich is the only Leeds player to have had a direct hand in more goals so far this season.
Due to his contract situation, Powell’s asking price will have surely dropped by January. And if Saiz continues to leave supporters feeling slightly underwhelmed with his displays, then perhaps Leeds will hold some discussions about potentially reigniting their interest in the 24-year-old.
And if Powell makes an impression on Sunday’s game, perhaps Leeds’ mind could be made up regarding one player that they want to try and bring to Elland Road in January.
