Hannes Wolf is a name linked with the Leeds United job at the moment.
Leeds are in the hunt for a new head coach after sacking Thomas Christiansen on Sunday night and Wolf has been backed into 7/4 second favourite for the role on Sky Bet.
If he gets the job – and it must be noted that the link is purely based on the bookies’ odds – then it will be interesting to see whether he recommends a certain Alexandru Maxim to United’s Director of Football Victor Orta in the summer transfer window.
The Romanian attacker was linked with a move to Elland Road last summer and Digi Sport claimed that a switch was “very close” to materialising, though he wound up joining Mainz for around £2.7 million.
But having scored five times in 15 Bundesliga 2 appearances under Wolf with Stuttgart last season, it seems possible that Maxim would consider a move to Leeds this time around if his former coach was there.
Maxim’s stint in the German top flight hasn’t exactly gone as planned this season, scoring once in 16 appearances for Mainz – 10 of those were starts.
Furthermore, the 27-year-old, who can play in a number 10 role and on the wing, has been an unused substitution in two of the Bundesliga side’s last three league outings.
Maxim, who also has 29 caps for his country, might be tempted into a move away come this summer and you wonder if Wolf-led Leeds could rekindle an interest.
