Leeds United are reportedly interested in Aleksandar Prijovic, and that may leave Pierre-Michel Lasogga feeling the pressure.
While Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s strike-rate for Leeds is impressive, there is no question that his loan move has not exactly gone to plan, with criticism of his form and injury seemingly proving as integral to the narrative of his spell as his goals have been.
The German has scored five times in 12 Championship appearances for the Whites, but his last goal came back in October, and his last three appearances for the club have hardly captured the imagination.
He looked well off the pace against Brentford before the international break, and has since made two substitute appearances – against Hull and Burton Albion either side of Christmas – where he has made little impact.
The length of time he spent on the sidelines will certainly be a factor in why he has looked rusty, but with Kemar Roofe enjoying the best goalscoring run of his Leeds career right now, the pressure is on the Hamburg-owned frontman to start taking the opportunities that come his way.
And that pressure may well be about to increase, with Leeds being linked with another striker as the January transfer window appears just around the corner.
Given Lasogga’s stature, he should arguably be the striker that fills the target man void, but right now, his ability to hold the ball up leaves a lot to be desired, and with the other forwards ticking other boxes, the 26-year-old probably does not need a player of similar height arriving to add competition to his position.
Therefore, the forward should perhaps consider it vital that he steps up in the very near future and makes the most of any opportunities that come his way – though it seems unlikely that Roofe will drop out of the starting lineup for the trip to Birmingham if he is fit – to try and convince Christiansen that he does not need to sign another goalscorer next month.
