Mateusz Klich has already been linked with the Leeds United exit, so perhaps the arrival of a reported target would be the final straw.
Vela has just 18 months on his contract with the Trotters, and the Mail reports that Leeds join Derby and Sheffield Wednesday in maintaining an interest in the 23-year-old.
Vela is a versatile player, but his best position is arguably in the middle of the park where he has featured most often for Bolton this term, so it would be no surprise if Thomas Christiansen and Victor Orta are looking at the youngster as someone who can bolster the Whites’ options in central midfield.
Should Leeds end up winning the race for Vela, it would surely be fair to suggest that it may well be the final straw for Mateusz Klich, who has endured a fairly miserable time since arriving at Elland Road.
Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur recently reported that Klich could be sent out on loan in January. The Poland international has struggled to break into Christiansen’s side since arriving, often being overshadowed by the likes of Ronaldo Vieira, Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips.
Their form has meant that Klich has featured just three times in the Championship since joining in the summer, so he is hardly likely to want to stick around if another player who can play in his position ends up arriving in January.
Klich would certainly be forgiven for wondering whether he made the right move in the summer, and his mood will surely not improve if Leeds end up managing to beat their Championship rivals to Vela’s signature.
