According to a report from the Daily Mail earlier in the week, Leeds are joined by six other clubs in the running to sign West Brom starlet Tyler Roberts, who is out of contract at the end of the season at The Hawthorns.

Roberts is one of the most exciting talents coming through with the Baggies and enjoyed an extremely promising loan spell with Walsall this season. Nevertheless, West Brom look set to face a fight to keep him.

The Mail suggests that seven different sides are keen on the 19-year-old forward. And given that six of those sides are based outside of England – the likes of Rangers, AC Milan and Marseille have been linked – it would appear that West Brom could well end up losing the teenager for just £300,000 at the end of the campaign if he does not sign a new deal.

Therefore, while Leeds fans may look at the amount of competition for his signature and feel slightly pessimistic about the Whites’ chances of winning the race, perhaps a bid they made earlier in the window could give them a boost if West Brom become resigned to losing him this month.

A previous report from the Daily Mail suggested that Leeds had seen a £4 million bid rejected by West Brom. Although the Baggies did not want to accept the offer on that occasion, the fact that the Championship side are willing to put the money on the table this month must have alerted the Baggies.

If Roberts makes it clear that he has no plans to sign a new deal at The Hawthorns, surely selling him for around £4 million this month makes a lot more sense than letting him run his deal down – especially if Alan Pardew does not have plans to use him significantly during the coming months.

So, as the list of foreign sides interested in signing Roberts grows, and the chances of him departing for a low six-figure fee in the summer also increase, surely, if West Brom are resigned to losing him, the Baggies would be forgiven for trying to steer him in Leeds’ direction this month.
