Leeds United need a new manager before they can think about additional players.

Garry Monk’s recent resignation as manager of Leeds United was a shocking and untimely blow to the Whites’ hopes of making a strong push for promotion next season.

Not only are Leeds now looking for a new manager but they could also be hindered in their pursuit of new recruits as a consequence.

After all, Monk will have drawn up a list of potential signings prior to his departure, yet whoever replaces him will have ideas of his own and summer signings are often worked on for months in advance of a deal being announced.

While Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani works on getting the right man for the job, the club’s Championship rivals will be quietly going about their own business behind the scenes, signing the players they feel can inspire them to a top-six finish.

Under Monk, Leeds were well placed to make some early statement signings and ensure the squad was fully assembled in good time.

Now it could be a case of securing the best of the rest, with some players unlikely to commit to a club where stability has long been anathema.

It is a sorry state of affairs and one Leeds’ fans do not deserve but unless, or should that be if, Radrizzani makes early moves for the players he believes would be best for the club and hopes his new appointment feels the same, 2018 could follow a familiar and depressing pattern.
