Sunderland defensive midfielder Bordeaux is reportedly wanted by Bordeaux in the summer transfer window.

Gus Poyet worked with Lee Cattermole at Sunderland, and there is no surprise that the Uruguayan reportedly wants the former Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic defensive midfielder at Bordeaux.

A report in The Guardian earlier this week claimed that French club Bordeaux want to sign Cattermole from Sunderland in the summer transfer window.

It was reported that joining the Ligue 1 club and working with his former Sunderland manager Poyet appeals to the 30-year-old, and that the two clubs were in discussions over the transfer.

However, Poyet’s suspension from Bordeaux could now have an effect on the future of Cattermole.

As reported by BBC Sport, Bordeaux have suspended their manager for a week for criticising the club for selling striker Gaetan Laborde to Ligue 1 rivals Montpellier without his permission.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder further said, as quoted by BBC Sport, that he could resign from his managerial role at Les Girondins.

With the future of Poyet at Bordeaux uncertain, it remains to be seen if the club pursue their reported interest in Cattermole.

If Bordeaux and Poyet part company, then it is hard to see the Sunderland defensive midfielder join the French club this summer.
