Birmingham have had one loan bid rejected for Ravel Morrison but are still hopeful of landing the Lazio star.
The midfielder has spent pre-season on trial with the Blues and has featured in all but one of their friendlies, impressing with his performances on the pitch and settling in well off it.
Ravel Morrison of SS Lazio looks on before the UEFA Europa League group G match against AS Saint-Etienne.
Boss Harry Redknapp has previously told the Birmingham Mail he is the only manager in English football who would take a risk on Morrison and potentially reap the rewards as a result.
This is in reference to the 24-year-old’s turbulent career to date, which saw him rated alongside Paul Pogba as an academy player at Manchester United, but failed to live up to expectations during spells with West Ham United, Cardiff City and most recently, in Italy.
In fact the only time Morrison really showed glimpses of what he is capable of was during a loan stint with QPR in 2014 when the West London club were managed by, you guessed it, Redknapp.
The 70-year-old does have previous when it comes to getting the best out of supposedly troublesome players, doing so with an aging Paul Merson at Portsmouth and later with Emmanuel Adebayor and Adel Taarabt at Tottenham Hotspur and Loftus Road respectively.
The fact Morrison was so highly regarded at Old Trafford shows that the talent is there, it just needs to be nurtured and if Redknapp gets it right, he could be signing one of the Championship’s standout stars of 2017/18.
