Celtic have reportedly taken Chelsea youngster Kyle Jameson on trial.

Celtic have taken Chelsea youngster Kyle Jameson on a two-week trial, according to STV.

It has been reported that the Scottish Premiership giants have taken the defender on trial, with a view to a loan deal in the summer transfer window for the 2017-18 campaign.

The 18-year-old defender joined Chelsea in the January transfer window on a free transfer after leaving Southport.

Jameson, who still has a year remaining on his contract at the Blues, arrived in Glasgow on Sunday evening, according to STV.

The Englishman is a talented and promising young defender, and one can understand why manager Brendan Rodgers is interested in him.

Celtic could do with some defensive cover, as Dedryck Boyata is injured at the moment. As reported by The Glasgow Evening Times, Boyata, who is 26 years of age and operates as a defender, has been ruled for up to three months with a medial ligament injury.

Signing an established centre-back would cost quite a bit of money in transfer fees and wages. Moreover, once Boyata recovers, Rodgers could have too many players for that position, given that Erik Sviatchenko and Kristoffer Ajer are still at the club.

It makes sense for the Celtic manager to go for someone like Jameson, who could provide valuable cover in central defence for a short period of time.

If the loan deal does not work out, then Celtic could just decide not to sign him on a permanent contract next summer instead of trying to find a new club to sell him to.
