Nottingham Forest were close to signing Swedish international ‘keeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt in the summer and he is still struggling at Swansea City.

With the World Cup on the horizon, Kristoffer Nordfeldt may be a little concerned that his lack of game-time could cost him a place in Sweden’s squad.

The goalkeeper has played just twice in the Premier League for Swansea City since moving from Eredivisie side Heerenveen in the summer of 2015. And with Lukas Fabianski a rare beacon of positivity in an otherwise dismal season for Paul Clement’s side, it’s unlikely Nordfeldt will be taking his place any time soon.

But with summer suitors Nottingham Forest still on the lookout for reinforcements between the sticks, could a deal be back on the cards in January?

World Cup dreams

Wales Online reported in August that Forest were interested in striking a deal for Nordfeldt, who admitted earlier in the summer that he had grown frustrated with his lack of opportunities at the Liberty Stadium.

And the same outlet now suggests that the seven-cap Swede could look to move away from South Wales in January in order to retain his place for his national team.

Copenhagen shot-stopper Robin Olsen currently holds the number one jersey for Sweden and he impressed across two legs as Sweden kept Italy out in a dramatic World Cup play-off victory earlier this month.

Nordfeldt, then, probably needs six months of first-team football to stake his claim ahead of the trip to Russia next year.

One of the standout goalkeepers in Holland during his four-year stint in Heerenveen, Nordfeldt may be one of the best options available to Forest in the New Year.
