Crystal Palace have reportedly turned their attention to the Tottenham Hotspur man.

Kevin Wimmer of Tottenham Hotspur warms up during the Tottenham Hotspur FC training session at the Tottenham Hotspur FC Training Centre on December 6, 2016 in Enfield, England.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have made a £15million bid for Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer, and if the deal goes through and the Austrian fulfils his potential, it could leave Spurs chairman Daniel Levy uncharacteristically short changed.

With Palace put off by Mamadou Sakho’s £30million price tag, they have allegedly turned their attention to Wimmer, with a £15million initial outlay raising to a potential £20million with add-ons.

That is still a hefty sum, but in this most inflated of transfer windows, one wonders if the Tottenham man will ultimately prove to be a bargain for whichever club is lucky enough to bring him in.

Wimmer may have struggled for game time at Tottenham yet he proved in his debut season alongside Toby Alderweireld that he can compete in the Premier League.

With the Belgian and his international teammate Jan Vertonghen forming a superb centre-back pairing at Spurs, Wimmer was always going to struggle for the regular minutes he needed to build consistency, and at Palace he could be every bit as effective as Sakho was before him.

Daniel Levy (R) looks on during the Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur at The Hawthorns on October 15, 2016 in West Bromwich, England.

Three years the Frenchman’s junior, Wimmer can grow into one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, and while there is no place for him at a Tottenham side flush with defensive options, it is no surprise Palace are moving ahead with a deal that could see them laughing for years to come.

Levy is renowned for getting big money for the players that do leave Tottenham, but on this occasion Wimmer could represent one of the few genuine bargains of the summer.
