Former Rangers star Kevin Muscat has been linked with the manager’s job at Ibrox.
Former Rangers defender Kevin Muscat in action
Kevin Muscat was a shock name linked late last week with the vacant managerial post at former club Rangers.
Once a no nonsense defender, Muscat is now honing his coaching skills in Australia’s A-League with Melbourne Victory.
The Scottish Sun report Muscat has been discussed by the Gers hierarchy as a potential candidate, and a would be intriguing on several counts.
One player Muscat could look to bring with him is his first choice Melbourne Victory striker, Besart Berisha.
Berisha’s name may be vaguely familiar to fans of British football after a failed spell at Burnley.
The Albanian striker signed at Turf Moor in 2007 but failed to establish himself in the first team, suffering a serious knee injury and leaving three years later without making a competitive start.
Late last year Berisha claimed he was a target for Manchester United, before Burnley registered their interest, the A-League’s official website reported.
Besart Berisha scores for Hamburg
After a spell in Germany, Berisha has spent the last six seasons playing in Australia, where he has become a real fan favourite.
He has been prolific, scoring 16 goals in 20 games this season including a brace at the weekend in a 3-0 win over Central Coast Mariners.
This adds to the 27 goals he netted the previous campaign and 18 a year earlier. Berisha is thriving in Australia and perhaps only Muscat’s departure could tempt him away.
He is a talisman for the team and real fan favourite and could fulfil a similar role for Rangers, who are in need of a prolific forward with Joe Garner yet to convince.
