Kenny McLean and Derek McInnes have both been heavily tipped to swap Aberdeen for Rangers.
It appears that we will finally know what the future holds for Derek McInnes at the end of this week.
The Aberdeen manager has been linked with taking over at Ibrox ever since Pedro Caixinha was sacked in October. And shortly after Dons chairman Stuart Milne appeared to bring an end to speculation by claiming that McInnes saw his future at Pittodrie, as reported by the Daily Record, the events of the last few days have added another chapter to this drawn-out saga.
The Daily Record add that Milne rebuffed Rangers’ official approach to speak to the 46-year-old manager – even though the Glasgow giants were willing to pay £1 million just to enter negotiations.
And the report adds that McInnes will now be forced to quit in order to return to the club he played for in the mid-90s. It is understood that he is determined to hear what Rangers have to say, even if this results in an unpleasant departure after four successful years at Aberdeen.
Double deal in doubt?
But it’s not just McInnes’ future that could rest on the next few days. Like the manager, Aberdeen midfielder Kenny McLean has been heavily linked with a move to Rangers in recent times, especially after making clear that he would not be extending his contract at Pittodrie beyond this season, per the Daily Record.
And it seemed almost certain that McLean would follow McInnes to Ibrox, possibly in the January transfer window as the Dons hope to avoid losing their prized asset on a free.
But with no shortage of interest in McLean from south of the border, Rangers will be hoping that they can finally lure McInnes to take one giant stride towards completing an exciting double deal that should improve their prospects both on the pitch and in the dugout.
But if McInnes does not get his chance at Rangers, will McLean go elsewhere?
