Tottenham Hotspur signed two young centre-backs this summer but one regularly travels far and wide with Colombia.
While summer signing Davinson Sanchez has slotted seamlessly into Tottenham Hotspur’s back line, he may not always be available due to his international commitments with Colombia.
As Tottenham have discovered with both Erik Lamela and Heung-min Son, some players have further to travel than others during the regular breaks from domestic matters, leaving them in need of recovery time when they do finally arrive back in London.
The latest Tottenham player set to rack up the air miles is Sanchez, who is already a regular for Colombia, but in time a fellow summer signing could ensure that is not a problem for Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Juan Foyth may only be 19, but he showed against Barnsley in the EFL Cup that he has the confidence on the ball and the passing ability to ultimately be a hit in North London, quickly justifying the £8million Tottenham paid to bring him in (Daily Mail).
He will need time to get used to his new surroundings and no one is expecting him to hit the ground running as Sanchez did, but with some patience, Foyth could be the back-up option Tottenham need when the Colombian endures more long journeys for his country.
While Argentine under-20 international Foyth has responsibilities of his own, the fact that there is no South American Youth Football Championship in 2018 means he will not be called on as regularly as many of his teammates and that should allow him to act as the ideal alternative when required.
If Tottenham stick with three centre-backs for the foreseeable future, Foyth’s presence will become increasingly important, and the problem of a jet-lagged Sanchez will not be the issue it otherwise could be.
