Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has used Juan Foyth as a right-back before.

For a team supposedly looking for a replacement for Kieran Trippier, there have been very few suggestions that Tottenham Hotspur are going after a right-back this summer.

Spurs have been tentatively linked with Youcef Atal and Hiroki Sakai, but they have not really pushed to sign either so far,

Tottenham seem to be more focused on improving other areas of their squad, and it may just be that Mauricio Pochettino already has his potential replacement for Trippier in place.

Trippier has been linked with Juventus in the Telegraph, with reports suggesting that the Italian side will take him off Tottenham’s hands for £25 million this summer.

That would leave a gap in Spurs’ squad, and it could be that Juan Foyth is given a role in Pochettino’s line-up.

Foyth was used at right-back towards the back end of last season, and he almost always impressed in the position.

Foyth kept Raheem Sterling quiet when Tottenham played against Manchester City, and he also looked dangerous in a forward sense after coming on against West Ham United.

Football London have recently suggested that Pochettino rates Foyth very highly, but it seems difficult for him to get in Tottenham’s team as a centre-back.

However, as a right-back there is certainly an opening and Foyth could fill it.

The Argentine international has all the ability in possession required to shift to a role as a full-back, and has actually often looked better at right-back than he has in the centre of the defence.

It would, of course, be a risk for Tottenham to go into the new campaign with Foyth as their first choice right-back.

But the 21-year-old has shown signs of great promise. And it may be that Pochettino thinks that the time is right to give Foyth his chance to stake a claim for a starting role in Tottenham’s team.
