Aston Villa signed the youngster on loan from Tottenham Hotspur but they have plenty of promising prospects of their own.
Aston Villa are seeing an upturn in form due, in part, to their exciting next wave of talent. Chief among them is forward Keinan Davis, but he is far from the only promising teenager in Villa’s ranks, with midfielder Callum O’Hare impressing in the EFL Cup this season.
The problem for the 19-year-old is that, as if chances were not already hard enough to come by, the presence of Josh Onomah makes it even more difficult for O’Hare to prove his worth.
Onomah was signed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, and the 20-year-old has featured 12 times to date, going from early starter to impact substitute in the last few weeks.
In contrast, O’Hare has managed just 32 minutes in the Championship – along with three starts in the EFL Cup – and one wonders if Villa boss Steve Bruce would not be better off giving his own teenager the chances currently afforded to the Tottenham man.
After all, it is one thing signing a player on loan to solve a problem in your own squad, and quite another doing so when you already have the talent to excel, if only if was given the chance.
Villa look very much on the up and if they can keep their next generation of players together they could excel for years to come.
But O’Hare needs to learn his trade and coming off the bench in the Championship week after week would certainly enable him to do that.
