Could Jordan Stevens have outside chance of making Leeds squad?

Jordan Stevens is one of the Leeds United youngsters knocking on Marcelo Bielsa’s door.

After the frightening scenes at the weekend, Leeds provided some fantastic news when they suggested on their official website that Jack Clarke was doing well.

Understandably, Clarke now looks set for a rest. And that leaves Marcelo Bielsa with a decision to make ahead of the Whites’ Championship clash with Swansea City on Wednesday.

Replacing Clarke for the game is an extremely tough task. His last four appearances have not seen the 18-year-old reach the level that he found when Derby visited Elland Road, but his scintillating display on that night encapsulated why there is so much buzz surrounding the teenager.

It was Pablo Hernandez who replaced Clarke at the break in the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough. And given what the Spaniard produced in the second-half, it would be no surprise if he returned to the starting lineup against his former club tomorrow.

And the obvious candidate to come into the squad in Clarke’s absence is Jordan Stevens. Like Clarke, Stevens is a player that Leeds fans feel compelled to look out for after regular dashes of brilliance in the under-23 ranks.

The former Forest Green Rovers man made his senior Leeds debut against Stoke City earlier this year. And while he would have rather got back into the team in any other way, the terrible circumstances surrounding Clarke may open the door for the 18-year-old to get back into the matchday squad this week.

If Bielsa wants another wide-man to come in for Clarke, then Stevens is surely the best option. He also has that unpredictability and moment of magic up his sleeve that saw his teammate become a fan favourite really before he made his debut against Brentford.

Stevens did not get to show that potential against Stoke. But if Leeds find themselves in a good position against the Swans, then perhaps Bielsa could hand the teenager another chance to impress.

And if he does take that chance – which he certainly has the talent to do – then Leeds may perhaps have another dangerous weapon up their sleeve just as the promotion race really begins to kick into top gear.
