Johansson, who is in the frame for a coaching role at Rangers, knows Cadden well from their time together at Motherwell.
After an endless series of names were linked with the managerial and Director of Football roles at Rangers, it seems that the appointment of a new assistant coach is set to become a similarly drawn-out process.
The Daily Mail claims that Jonatan Johansson has joined the likes of Barry Ferguson, John Brown and Alex Rae on the list of potential candidates interviewed personally by Caixinha – who is looking for a man with detailed knowledge of the club and the Scottish game.
And the current Finland assistant, who spent three years at Rangers between 1997 and 2000, certainly fits the bill. Furthermore, he could help the club continue their reported pursuit of one of Scotland’s brightest talents.
Formerly the Under-20 coach at Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell, Johansson oversaw the development of one Chris Cadden, a dynamic young winger who made his first-team debut at the age of just 17 three years ago.
Since then, he has piqued the interest of many a scout with his sprightly performances. And, according to the Daily Record, Rangers have expressed an interest in the 20-year-old while Sunderland and West Ham are keen on bringing him to the Premier League.
Cadden certainly fits the bill for Caixinha. Creative, young and home-grown, Rangers’ lack of funds means attracting the most promising domestic talents and selling them on for a profit somewhere down the line could prove an astute approach to the transfer market.
And Rangers would surely have a better chance of luring the wideman if Johansson, who is more than aware of his potential after their spell together at Fir Park, returns to Ibrox prior to the summer window.
