Glasgow Rangers need a change in midfield for their first match after the international break.

Rangers made a number of signings back in the summer but arguably the pick of the bunch was Ryan Jack.

He may not be making headlines like Alfredo Morelos or chipping in with goals from the centre of the park like Graham Dorrans, but Jack’s no-nonsense approach to the game has helped his teammates get on with what they do best.

Erik Sviatchenko of Celtic vies with Jason Holt of Rangers during the Rangers v Celtic Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match at Ibrox Stadium on December 31, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

So it will have come as a bitter blow to Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha when Jack was sent off 54 minutes into the recent victory against Hamilton Academical.

Rangers still ran out 4-1 winners, but Jack’s dismissal means he will be suspended for the upcoming game against St Johnstone, so could his absence give a previously forgotten man the chance to prove his worth?

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is seen prior to the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Jason Holt has barely featured for the Gers this season, but Jack’s red card saw him called from the bench, and the 24-year-old responded with an assist.

Given Rangers’ squad options and Holt’s place on the bench for their last three league games, it seems likely that Caixinha will call on him after the international break.

From there Holt should have the chance to prove he still has a role to play at Ibrox this season, as more than just a bit-part player.

He will no doubt be keen to prove that his below-part performance against Progres Niederkorn back in August was a blip rather than a sign of things to come, and with injuries and suspensions expected as the season goes on, he must prove he can be the go-to man when Rangers require one.
