Jan Vertonghen played as a left-back for Tottenham Hotspur against Bournemouth in the Premier League at the weekend.
Rose is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and has been an important player for Tottenham for years.
It will be a blow to Spurs if the 27-year-old former Leeds United prospect, who earns £75,000 per week at the club according to The Daily Star, leaves next summer, but North London outfit may already have a suitable replacement in Jan Vertonghen.
Vertonghen is one of the best central defenders in the Premier League and has forged a formidable partnership with Toby Alderweireld at the back.
The 30-year-old Belgium international, though, is equally adept at left-back, as he showed against Bournemouth in the Premier League at the weekend.
Ben Davies has been excellent for Tottenham in the absence of Danny Rose so far this season, but Vertonghen was superb in the place of the Wales international left-back against the Cherries.
Spurs signed Davinson Sanchez from Ajax in the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old centre-back has done well so far this season, and it is only a matter of time before the Colombia international establishes himself as a regular in the first team.
Would it be too far-fetched to suggest that as the season progresses, Sanchez and Alderweireld could be the two centre-backs for Spurs with Vertonghen play as a left-back and Davies his back-up?
Probably not.
