Glasgow Rangers could be facing a lengthy period with Jamie Murphy on the Ibrox sidelines.

With Jamie Murphy facing a lengthy period on the sidelines after sustaining a serious injury in Rangers’ most recent clash, Steven Gerrard may currently be considering what options are available to him.
Of course, with the window still open, Gerrard could push for a new signing to come in; while using the young players in the club’s ranks could also prove tempting for the Gers boss.
But perhaps one curveball idea that Gerrard should consider is pushing James Tavernier slightly further forward to cover for however long Murphy finds himself on the sidelines at Ibrox.
Tavernier has shown during his time with the Light Blues that he can be extremely influential at both ends of the field. His goals and assists tally since arriving at Rangers is almost frightening, and he is regularly seen darting down the line towards the final third, or looking to cut inside and get more involved in the middle of the park.

In fact, one of the main criticisms of Tavernier since his move to Rangers is to do with his defending. So perhaps Murphy’s injury may present the perfect time to try the Englishman slightly further up the field, perhaps with Ryan Kent moving out to the left.
For the first time since the 26-year-old arrived, Rangers have genuine depth at full-back, with summer signings Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic given Gerrard the option to perhaps push Tavernier forward.
It should probably not be Gerrard’s first choice because it would be a potential risk to move Tavernier from a role where he is currently thriving, but his ability to get forward should be something that the Rangers boss certainly thinks about should he prove unable to get a new signing through the door before the transfer window closes.
