Aston Villa have an exciting new right-back in their ranks and he looks up to the job.
During Aston Villa’s struggles earlier this season one player was blamed more than most, and even now, when things go wrong, fingers are almost invariably pointed at Alan Hutton.
The 32-year-old right-back has featured 28 times for Villa this season, but the arrival of youngster James Bree has raised questions regarding the former Scottish international’s long-term future at the club.
After all, while Bree had to wait patiently for his chance to impress following his January switch from Barnsley, the 19-year-old looked great against Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday.
When Bree and Hutton played together after the latter came off the bench against the Owls, it was clear it has to be a case of one or the other rather than both, which leaves Villa boss Steve Bruce with a decision to make next season.
With Hutton soon to be out of contract, now could be the perfect time to blood Bree before waving goodbye to the Scotsman, at which point the boo boys will have to find another target for their ire.
