Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a shock move for Isco this transfer deadline day.

The Real Madrid attacking midfielder is said to be one of the club’s main transfer targets, as they look to bring in a couple of new signings before the 11pm deadline.

Mundo Deportivo in Spain are even reporting that Spurs have in fact been in touch with the player about a move.

So could Isco become a cult transfer and hero like Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart?

The Dutchman’s arrival on deadline day in August 2010 is one of the more sensational deals in deadline day history.

Not only because of the remarkably low price Spurs paid for the player, but because it signalled a change in Spurs transfer history – as they finally targeted established names in European football.

Van Der Vaart went on to become a cult hero at Spurs under the management of Harry Redknapp.

Isco could no doubt be the same.

Like RVDV the day starts with Isco an unlikely rumour but if Spurs could pull off a deal for the Spanish playmaker it would certainly rival the signature of Van Der Vaart six years ago.
