The Frenchman’s club Sevilla are reportedly in talks to sign Roque Mesa on loan from Swansea City.

Everton and West Ham United may have been given fresh hope of getting a deal done for Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi before the close of the transfer window.

The Sun reported a month ago that both clubs were keen on bringing the former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City powerhouse back to the Premier League in January.

N’Zonzi did not play for Sevilla in December because of a fallout with then-coach Eduardo Berizzo, but has been brought back into the fold by new boss Vincenzo Montella.

However, the Frenchman might yet become available this month as Sky Sports understands that Sevilla are making a move to sign Roque Mesa on loan from Swansea City.

The 28-year-old has been hugely disappointing in his 11 league appearances since arriving from Las Palmas in the summer, but is still highly thought of over in Spain.

Sevilla already have plenty of midfield options, Ever Banega, Guido Pizarro and Franco Vasquez among them, so Mesa’s arrival could potentially free N’Zonzi up for transfer.

N’Zonzi has played 113 times for Sevilla, helping them to Europa League glory in 2015-16, and would be a marked improvement on what either Everton or West Ham currently have.
