Burnley’s defence looks primed to shut down a speedy Liverpool attack, suggesting a surprise could be on the cards at Anfield.
Burnley’s away form in the Premier League last season was wretched, taking until the end of April to win at Crystal Palace for their first victory on the road.
And so it is no surprise that Sean Dyche’s men were beaten by Liverpool at Anfield, even if the visiting Clarets took the lead through Ashley Barnes.
But Burnley are a better side away from home this term, incredibly collecting four points from trips to Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur – last year’s top two.
When Dyche takes his team to Anfield this weekend, they can be slightly more confident of a result – particularly after their home win against Liverpool last season.
In that game, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds dominated from start to finish but were unable to respond to Sam Vokes’ early goal, with the now-departed Andre Gray adding a second.
Liverpool’s biggest attacking flaw is their failure to take chances, with Mohamed Salah missing a number of key opportunities this term – notably early on at Manchester City – despite already tallying four goals.
And with Klopp’s men dependent on their pace on the counter, too, they could find life tough against a Burnley side who will be happy to soak up pressure.
Philippe Coutinho could be key for the hosts, but if Salah can’t make an impact and alongside Sadio Mane’s suspension, given Liverpool’s defensive frailties Burnley might back themselves to nick a goal at the other end and secure a famous result.
