Everton had been linked with the Manchester United stopper prior to his loan switch to Shrewsbury
According to a recent report from the print edition of the Sunday People (11/06/2017 page 56), Everton are keen on signing Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, and despite the player’s recent loan move to Shrewsbury Town, an impressive stint there is only likely to strengthen the Toffees’ desire to ultimately get their man.
With David de Gea, Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira all ahead of Henderson in the pecking order at Old Trafford, it is no surprise to see Henderson head out on loan, and while he is still only 20, it is hard to see him break through at United.
Even if De Gea leaves further down the line, Pereira is seen as the heir apparent to the Spaniard, so could Everton bring Henderson to Goodison Park in 2018 or beyond?
Only time will tell, but if the young stopper impresses on loan at Shrewsbury, following up his stellar outings in England’s U20 World Cup-winning campaign, that is not beyond the realms of possibility.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman would not have seen Henderson as an immediate solution to his goalkeeping problems, more a long-term investment as he bids to build both for the here and now and for the future.
He has the innate talent to excel in the Premier League and Everton are becoming one of the go-to clubs for promising talent seeking the step up.
With Tom Davies, Ademola Lookman, Dominic Calvert-Lewin et al already bebefiting from Koeman’s ethos, Henderson would do well to follow them if the Everton boss comes calling this time next year.
