The South Korea international has already raised his game this season, scoring stunning efforts from the edge of the box in recent Premier League wins.

Heung-Min Son’s impressive start to the season has hinted that he could be a marquee player for Spurs for the rest of the campaign and moving forward, of the like the club haven’t had since Gareth Bale.

Though Harry Kane is very much a pin-up for the Spurs faithful, his South Korean teammate is a player who is a hugely marketable individual to have at the club beyond their own support, especially if he continues to back up his reputation with match winning, goalscoring performances as he has done recently against Stoke and Middlesbrough.

And Son followed that up on Tuesday night with the winner away to CSKA Moscow to get their Champions League campaign up and running.

At just 24-years-old and having already shone in the Bundesliga, Son is the poster boy of Asian football, having won the continent’s Footballer of the Year award last year. If he impresses at a Premier League side competing in the Champions League, he has megastar quality.

Not since Gareth Bale have Spurs had an attacking midfielder with such a lust and talent for scoring goals, and like the Welshman did with his sensational performances and goals, Son could attract new supporters into the club.

Nacer Chadli was the club’s biggest goal threat from the wings after Bale left Real Madrid, with a strong season in the 2014-15 season where he netted 13 times the best from a midfielder since the Wales star’s final season. But Chadli was unable to keep up that goalscoring form, and doesn’t have the pace and direct attacking threat that Son exhibits.

Of course, Bale’s later years at White Hart Lane saw him operate in a number of different attacking positions, coming off the wing or playing behind a central striker.

Son can also be a threat from various roles, but it isn’t just his goals that have caused him to catch the eye recently, but the level and excitement of performances across 90 minutes where he has repeatedly shown up his opponent.

If the former Bayer Leverkusen man can bring that level of consistency to his game across the entire season, he has a chance of becoming the greatest Asian footballer of all time, and a Spurs legend to boot.
