Could Harry Wilson help Rangers catch Celtic year after Rodgers bid?

Glasgow Rangers are keen to bring Harry Wilson to Ibrox during the summer, but they face plenty of competition.

According to a report from The Sun, Rangers are amongst the cluster of sides interested in signing Harry Wilson on loan this summer as Steven Gerrard continues to try and make some exciting plans for the Gers.

Wilson has a host of teams interested in signing him after a superb second-half of the season out on loan with Hull City. The 21-year-old scored seven goals in just 13 appearances for the Tigers to ensure that they stayed in the Championship.

The Sun reports that Rangers are keen to pay the £250,000 fee that Liverpool are looking for before they agree to loan him out for next season, but Leeds United, Aston Villa and Huddersfield Town are also keen on bagging his signature.

Wilson appears to have a huge amount of potential having scored so many goals from the wing last season, and it would undoubtedly be a coup for the Gers if they were able to get a deal done. And Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers may be one of those who feels that Gerrard has pulled off a fantastic piece of business.

That is because Rodgers had actually hoped to bring Wilson to Parkhead 12 months ago, but Liverpool rejected a permanent and a loan bid for the Wales international with Jurgen Klopp keen to keep hold of him at the time, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Of course, missing out on Wilson 12 months ago made absolutely no difference to the Hoops’ season as they claimed another domestic Treble, while Rangers only ever really had a very brief hope during the latter stages of the campaign that they may be one win away from setting up a possible title race.

Given the gulf between the two sides this past season, Wilson’s arrival on its own – if he does decide to make the move to Ibrox – may not make a huge difference, but he is an extremely bright talent who appears to have the quality going forward to make a devastating impact in the Scottish Premiership, and a raft of similar signings could perhaps threaten to change the complexion.

And if he does end up at Rangers this summer and does replicate the lethal form he showed at Hull, it would arguably be the kind of signing that could really help the Gers start to close that gap.
