Rafael Benitez was said to have placed Leicester City’s Wes Morgan on Newcastle United’s wishlist.

According to a report on BBC Sport, Harry Maguire is set to make a £17 million move to Leicester City – and that could enable Newcastle United to have a better chance of completing one of Rafael Benitez’s first transfer plans.

Soon after Newcastle’s promotion was confirmed, Wes Morgan was said to be on the Magpies’ wishlist (The Sun).

However, at the time, Leicester appeared to be determined to keep hold of the 33-year-old and Newcastle could not complete a deal.

Leicester had a shortage of options at the back at that stage, but Maguire’s impending arrival at the City Ground is set to knock Morgan down the pecking order.

And the Foxes could be more receptive to doing a deal for the Jamaican international, if Newcastle were to make a repeat bid.

Morgan will go down as a Leicester legend, but when Maguire does sign, his place in the team will be under serious threat.

And Benitez may take that as all the encouragement he needs, to make a second bid to sign the powerful centre-back.
