The teenage Liverpool striker is excelling for the under-23s this season.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp sprang something of a surprise when he named the youngest starting XI in the club’s history for their FA Cup third round clash with Plymouth Argyle on Sunday.
It did not quite go according to plan, with the League Two side holding their illustrious, if much-changed, rivals to a 0-0 draw, ensuring the two teams must do it all again later this month.
But despite some relatively unfamiliar faces being on show at Anfield, it showed Klopp is not afraid to give youth a chance; something that bodes well for Liverpool’s future.
So who could be the next youngster to get a first-team opportunity?
He may only be 16, but striker Glen McAuley has as good a chance as any, scoring 13 goals already for Liverpool’s under-18 side this season.
The young Irishman only joined the Reds’ academy in 2015 but he is wasting little time making his mark and big things are expected of him in due course.
With Ben Woodburn already tipped as the next big thing, McAuley could slip under the radar, allowing him to develop his game further without the expectations that always come with teenage prodigies.
McAuley is young, but as Klopp proved at the weekend, age is no barrier to making your Liverpool debut if you are deemed good enough by the German.
