Glasgow Rangers signing Jermain Defoe may just be the best thing possible for Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers has been urging Celtic to make signings over the past two transfer windows, but his side have remained static, while Rangers have strengthened.

Celtic have dominated Scottish football for years, and the Bhoys showed little ambition to buy when Rangers were struggling.

However, Steven Gerrard’s side are really starting to give Celtic a fight for the title, and their impending addition of Defoe has sent shockwaves across Scottish football.

Defoe is set to arrive at Ibrox in the near future, as reported by the Glasgow Evening Times, and that signing could now force Celtic to take action.

Celtic have been reluctant to spend, but there is now increasing pressure on them to respond to Rangers’ moves in the transfer market.

Defoe has the potential to improve the Ibrox side’s attack significantly over the second half of the season.

And even though Rodgers will now have to fend off a much improved Rangers side, their decision to loan Defoe may just work in his favour, as Celtic seemingly have no option no other than to finally take action in the transfer market.
