Tottenham Hotspur’s summer plans may perhaps be boosted by the decision made by their former striker Jermain Defoe.

Bournemouth's Joshua King scores their first goalBournemouth’s Joshua King

A recent report in the Daily Mail has suggested that Tottenham are keeping a keen eye on Bournemouth striker Joshua King. But given his tremendous season down at the Vitality Stadium, it would hardly be a surprise if the Cherries were desperately keen to hold onto their top goalscorer.

The Mail suggests that King could command a fee of at least £15 million, but it would make sense if Bournemouth dug their heels in and held out for much more, especially with Callum Wilson struggling with injury.

So perhaps one of Spurs’ former strikers could be about to leave the path for King to join Tottenham much clearer.

Another report from the Mail has suggested that Jermain Defoe will be available on a free transfer this summer following Sunderland’s relegation, and that Bournemouth are currently leading the chase for the forward.

Like King, Defoe has reached double figures for Premier League goals this season. And with the 34-year-old showing absolutely no signs of coming towards the end of his career, some Cherries fans may perhaps deem selling King for at least £15 million and signing Defoe on a free to be a very good piece of business for the club.

And although Eddie Howe may prefer to have both strikers in his ranks, he may accept that sanctioning the two deals may be beneficial to Bournemouth as it will allow them to replace their star striker while also having a significant amount of funds to strengthen other areas of the squad.

And if that proves to be the case, then Tottenham may well have their former striker to thank for giving them a better chance of landing one of their summer targets.
