Leeds United made some brilliant permanent additions in the summer, but their only new centre-back was the loan signing of Matthew Pennington from Everton.

During his time at Partick Thistle, Leeds were regularly linked with the 21-year-old, and tonight he has the chance to prove his worth when his new club Barnsley take on Tottenham Hotspur.

As reported by the Scottish Sun earlier this year, Leeds had a longstanding interest in Lindsay prior to his move to their Championship rivals and tonight could show if he was the one that got away.

Leeds have not exactly done badly in his absence, with Liam Cooper excelling under new Whites boss Thomas Christiansen and Pontus Jansson as imperious as ever. But with Pennington’s long-term future likely to be at Goodison Park, it will be interesting to see how Lindsay fares in the years ahead.
