Some Liverpool fans on social media are far from happy with James Pearce’s transfer update around the Reds’ hunt for a centre-back.
The Athletic journalist writes that Liverpool won’t be signing a new centre-back this month, claiming that the Reds aren’t in for Ozan Kabak, Sven Botman or Ben White, despite links to each of those players.
As you can probably imagine, Liverpool fans weren’t best pleased with this transfer news.
You can understand why as well, as an outsider looking in, it seems as though Jurgen Klopp’s side are desperate for a centre-half this month.
Indeed, the Reds had to resort to using two midfielders at the back against Southampton with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho playing out of position against the Saints.
With Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk not looking like returning anytime soon, the Reds’ lack of defenders could cost them dearly, especially with the title race shaping up to be the closest it has been in years.
Of course, things can always change, a deal for Thiago Alcantara was repeatedly written off by numerous journalists in the summer before the Spaniard eventually signed, but it has to be said that James Pearce is usually very reliable, so this claim should be taken seriously.
