Newcastle United should consider a move for the Everton winger to help bolster their wide attacking options.

With Portuguese outlet O Jogo reporting that Everton have entered the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers star Helder Costa, the future of Aaron Lennon at Goodison Park would seem to be uncertain to say the least.

And the Magpies should consider a move for the 29-year-old, with Rafa Benitez reportedly very keen on adding a winger to his squad this month.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man made the permanent switch to Merseyside in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be in the region of £4 million, but he has failed to make the impact expected of him, scoring just five goals and providing one assist in 35 league outings for the Toffees.

This season has seen his role in the first-team limited even further, and he has made just six Premier League starts for Ronald Koeman’s men.

And maybe a change of scenery is required for Lennon, if he is to breathe life back into his flagging career.

St James’ Park would be the ideal destination for Lennon, and despite him not possessing the blistering pace that he once did, his experience and ability to get in behind the opposition’s defence could prove to be a fantastic asset for the Tyneside outfit.

He can play anywhere along the frontline, and would offer Rafa Benitez something that he currently does not possess.

And with the Newcastle squad being hit so hard by injuries of late, combined with a handful of their players being on duty at the African Cup of Nations, the addition of someone with the quality of Aaron Lennon would be very welcome indeed.
