Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney has had to endure difficult times of late for both club and country, and has fallen out of favour as a regular starter with Jose Mourinho.
Part of his problems must surely be attributed to him being switched from one position to another, from one week to the next.
It must be incredibly difficult to maintain consistent levels when you are playing as a deep-lying play-maker one week and an out-and-out striker the next.
With reports emanating from the Independent suggesting that United are keen on signing Everton pair Seamus Coleman and Romelu Lukaku, after performing extensive scouting missions on the duo, could now be the perfect time for Rooney to return to Goodison Park as a part of some kind of exchange deal?

The 117-capped England international burst on to the scene at Goodison Park as a 16-year-old in 2002, with a wonder striker against Arsenal.
He has since gone on to score 264 goals in 605 appearances for both Everton and Manchester united respectively.
Rooney has never lost his strong bond with the Everton fans – as the majority of the Blues faithful viewed his move away from the club 12 years ago as something that was needed to further his career.
Ronald Koeman could deploy Rooney in the number 10 role, freeing up Ross Barkley to play in either a more deep-lying role, or in the wide attacking areas.

There is a sense that seems to be growing stronger by the day that Rooney’s days at Old Trafford could be numbered, and a change of scenery, albeit a very familiar one, could do him the world of good.
Much will depend on Everton’s ability to force their way into the top four, and whether or not they can offer potential transfer targets Champions League football.
At 30-years-old, however, now would seem like the perfect time in Rooney’s career for him to return to his boyhood club, and once again become an adored figure amongst the fans.
