Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has fallen out of favour, but could prove a useful option for Everton.
According to Kleinezeitung, Everton will have scouts posted at Serbia’s match against Austria in World Cup qualification later this evening, and that could raise the question of whether Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is on their radar.
Everton are surely set to sign a new forward in January, after what has been a highly disappointing campaign so far.
The Toffees have lacked a forward threat, and it could be that Mitrovic is seen as an option for Ronald Koeman.
Mitrovic is a hugely popular figure at Newcastle, but there is a reluctance from Rafael Benitez to play the target-man.
The former Anderlecht star has suffered from disciplinary problems, and has limitations to his game.
Yet, he still has the qualities to cause any defence problems and his record at international level proves this.
Mitrovic has hit 10 goals in 30 appearances for Serbia, and currently sits near the top of the goalscoring charts for World Cup qualifying.
Mitrovic also scored nine goals in his first 34 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, which is a highly credible record for a player who was just 21 at the time.
Mitrovic’s career has stalled in recent times, but he still remains a talent – and Everton may just feel that Koeman is the man to get the best out of the striker, if he comes to Goodison Park.
