Celtic are said to be closing in on signing Chelsea forward Dominic Solanke, with Brendan Rodgers a big fan.
According to a report in the Daily Record, Celtic are closing in on a deal for Chelsea forward Dominic Solanke.
Solanke is reportedly on the verge of a £400,000 move to Celtic, which has excited supporters of the Glasgow club.
Solanke appears to be one of the brightest up and coming English talents.
The striker has represented England at a number of youth levels, and will ensure that Celtic’s attacking options are improved next term.
That should be good news for nearly everybody at Celtic, but the move could plunge Leigh Griffiths’ future with the Glasgow club into some doubt.
Griffiths lost his place in Celtic’s team to Moussa Dembele this season, despite scoring over 40 goals last campaign.
Brendan Rodgers has also publicly criticised the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man.
And, although Griffiths has still shown flashes of quality, it is unlikely that Solanke would be brought in as Celtic’s third-choice striker.
It seems much more plausible that Solanke will be snapped up to compete with Dembele for a first-team place, and another knock down the pecking order for Griffiths could be bad news.
Griffiths has admitted recently that he wants more first team action at Celtic (Daily Express).
But with the battle for places in Rodgers’ line-up only increasing, it could be that the forward actually spends more time on the substitutes’ bench next season.
And if Griffiths is only utilised a reserve option again, his Celtic future is sure to come into question over the months ahead.
