Liverpool fans on Twitter were in awe of the performance James Milner put in for his club tonight as they recorded a 3-0 win over Leicester City at Anfield.

Now, 34, Milner is someone who hardly starts under Jurgen Klopp when he has a full-strength Liverpool team at his disposal – but given recent circumstances, he made his first league start tonight.

Going into the Leicester game, there was a sense of nervousness from the red side of Merseyside because of the number of players they have lost to injuries.

One of those players was Trent Alexander-Arnold, who would have enjoyed Milner filling in at right-back and ensuring his side kept a clean sheet.

The Liverpool supporters were mightily impressed with the 2015 Brendan Rodgers signing, who has turned into a firefighter-like player in recent years.

Milner’s experience, calmness and know-how was on show in tonight’s match and it’s a key reason as to why he is such an underrated figure.
